Choosing the Correct Double-Sided Bonding Tape for Sign Installation

In the sign-making industry, double-sided bonding tapes play a critical role, providing clean, durable, and efficient bonding solutions. These tapes enable sign makers to quickly install signs without visible fixings, ensuring professional aesthetics and structural integrity. However, not all tapes are created equal; selecting the correct product tailored to specific materials and applications significantly affects the performance and longevity of the installation.

Proper selection and application of double-sided bonding tape are essential to the success of your sign installations. Incorrect tape choice or application can result in costly failures.

Tape Summaries

Stykra 180
White cross-linked PE foam bonding tape, 1mm thick. High shear strength and initial tack. Ideal for internal and lightweight exterior mounting. Application temperature: 18-25°C.

Stykra 230
Very thin white PVC tape with modified acrylic adhesive. Exceptional humidity, solvent, and plasticizer resistance. Suitable for detailed bonding applications indoors and outdoors. Application temperature: min. 15°C.

Stykra 500
Clear polyester tape with solvent acrylic adhesive, thin profile. Excellent for LSE materials, specifically designed for banner hemming and lightweight mounting tasks. Application temperature: min. 10°C.

Stykra 600
Optically clear, 1mm thick pure acrylic tape ideal for invisible bonds between sign materials. Perfect for glass facias, acrylic components, and visible framing applications.

Stykra 650
Grey foamed pure acrylic structural bonding tape (VHB), 1.1mm thick. Designed for durable bonding in dynamic load environments, temperature fluctuations, and exterior conditions. Requires primer on LSE surfaces. Application temperature: min. 15°C.

Stykra 700
Similar to Stykra 650, grey foamed pure acrylic structural bonding tape (VHB), 1.1mm thick. Enhanced usability due to lower minimum application temperature of 0°C, excellent for demanding external and structural applications. Requires primer on LSE surfaces.

Stykra 780 LSE
Clear structural bonding tape, 0.8mm thick with unique elongation properties. Specifically designed for immediate, strong bonds on LSE materials, powder-coated metals, glass, and dynamic load applications. Ideal for quick mounting tasks. Application temperature: min. 15°C. Primer recommended for enhanced bond strength on LSE substrates.

Important Application Tips:

  • Ensure surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, free from dust, grease, silicone, and dirt.

  • LSE surfaces may require primer (Stykra Primer).

  • Maintain even and adequate pressure across the bonding surface.

  • Follow the dwell time guidelines (usually 72 hours at room temperature) to reach maximum bond strength.
